Icredible as it might seem, it is possible to buy cars that work right and are clean and almost new for the price of an expensive dinner in a nice restaurant. These extremely cheap cars can be bought in special car auction. These special auction types run on repossessed cars. The auction holders are financial institutions and governmental foundations usually.
Just in case you are wondering Why the cars were repossessed, then you must know that the answers varies from institution to institution. Some of the repossessed cars come from people who have opened a credit at some bank or even purchased a car in leasing, and ended up not paying it, and now the bank is confiscating their belongings. Police and IRS also confiscate cars from persons that can not justify their income in a certain period of time or from those who can not pay the owed taxes. The last type of cars sold in governmental auctions are those that used to belong to governmental institutions, like police cars or military dump trucks.
Regardless of where these cars come from, they are all now property of juridical persons or property of the government, and they will all be sold with no reserve and no minimum pricing. This can also mean that you will see cars that have been used for just a couple of months in these auctions. The main reason for such low prices is not the fact that the institutions try to make a quick profits, it’s the reality that they spent lots of money just depositing these cars, and might end up losing additional money if they don’t sell some of them fast.
These auctions are usually announced in media one or two weeks before starting, and are always attended by business persons that own or intend to open a used cars dealership. Car dealers benefit a lot from these used cars, as they can buy a good car at prices that are way below those they can sell the car to clients. The attendance of usual car buyers is low because the event is advertised for a short period of time and so many dealers usually go and bid on cars that they discourage any other bids.
