Where Do You Live?

State:

You will always find auction opportunities regardless of the level of government. City Public auto auctions is a great source for finding vehicles that are great value for money, and at the same time not competing with too many bidders. This can be an important part of your auction strategy with the view of finding great vehicle purchases at a number of events.

Cities hold auctions less often than other federal and state agencies across the country. This is mostly due to their size. This has its upsides. You’ll tend to encounter very little government bureaucracy at auction events end in the process of announcing it to the general public. Many factors determine how frequent cities will hold auctions, but most will have events at least once a quarter.

Slowly, but surely, across the country cities have started to use online portals to conduct these auctions. Obviously this leads to an easier auction process. The majority of cities still believe that they don’t need to fix what’s not broken and therefore still stick to live events.

It’s highly unlikely that the city auto auction event will be restricted to only a small amount of eligible participants. To be eligibile you need to provide proof of identity and be at least 18 years old - even 21 years in some states. It’s therefore only in exceptional circumstances that the city council will allow only registered auto dealers to participate in the auction.

In line with their goal of making these events as accessible as possible to all, the entry fee for bidding will also be fairly low. The range can be between just a couple of dollars up to $25. Each City sets its own fee and will be different from for example, San Antonia to San Diego and Phoenix.

Compared to federal levels auctions, city car auctions usually has a much more homely feel to them. The city councile will either manage the auction event themselves, or contract it out to a specialist professional auction house. ‘Stick to your guns’ however, and don’t do things differently. I call it the auction success blueprint, which basically entails good research and knowing the fair value of the vehicle. Do not bid too much, keep a level head and you will be well on your way to save thousands.
